Introduction
This webinar will examine the challenges faced when analyzing exploration samples prepared by lithium borate fusion for rare earth elements (REEs) using a NexION ICP-MS. We will explain some of the issues you may face when analyzing these types of samples by ICP-MS and how you can overcome them. There are four main issues to overcome: difficult sample solutions with high amounts of dissolved solids leading to plasma loading issues; a wide range in element concentrations; multiple isotopic interferences; and long-term stability. Both NexION® single-quadrupole and multi-quadrupole instruments have design features that help to overcome these challenges, as will be discussed in detail, along with specific real-world examples.
Learning Objectives:
- Key issues faced when analyzing exploration samples prepared by lithium borate fusion for rare earth elements by ICP-MS
- How both single- and multi-quadrupole technology is employed by the NexION series instruments for these sample matrices
- Practical examples of using these features in REE analysis
