Smart Fertilizers for Sustainable Agriculture
In this presentation, Dr. Syed Ismail, Head of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, discusses the challenges of traditional fertilizers in the landscape of population growth, decreasing farm land, and increasing food demand in regions such as India. Innovations in ‘smart’ slow-release urea fertilizers are minimizing nutrient loss, increasing yields, and preventing many negative environmental effects.
Quality in the Fertilizer Manufacturing Process
Learn how The Mosaic Company, the world’s leading agricultural producer of phosphate and potash products, is using analytical instrumentation in their research and development and QA/QC practices to maximize its manufacturing of high-quality fertilizers. Also described is PerkinElmer's maintenance and training services which are vital components in factory efficiency and minimizing production downtime.
Combining Nanotechnology and Molecular Recognition in Agriculture & Food
Dr. Maria C. DeRosa, Professor at Carleton University is one of 24 scientists worldwide to receive a 2021 Grants4Ag award from Bayer Crop Science. In this presentation, she discusses their cutting- edge research and projects at the intersection of biotechnology, nanotechnology, molecular recognition, and materials science to develop solutions for smart fertilizers and real-world 'smart' farms.
QA & Mitigation for Agrochemicals using FT-IR & Clearshot Extraction
Dean Smith, Owner and VP of Engineering at Orono Spectral Solutions presents about quality assurance, feedback, control, and problem mitigation for agrochemical manufacturers using FT-IR instrumentation and ClearShot™ Extractor technology. The talk includes case study examples of how the techniques detect and resolve problems in real-time during manufacturing.
Studies on Converting Batch Processes for Chemicals to Flow Processes in Scaled-Up Production
Dr. Hanuman Gupta, Principal Scientist and Head of R&D for Agro-Vertical markets at SRF Group presents studies on converting batch processes to flow processes in fertilizer manufacture including methods such as lithiation, borylation, C-C bond formation, selective elimination of impurities, controlled oxidation, selective hydroxy de-diazotization, amination reactions, and other methods.
Rapid Method to Test Hydrocarbon Contamination in Water to ASTM D7575
In this presentation, Ian Robertson, Principal Application Scientist at PerkinElmer, discusses an FT-IR solution for performing a rapid, "Green" ASTM Method D7575 for testing hydrocarbon contamination in environmental water samples and other water samples like waters utilized in manufacturing agrochemicals products, to ensure regulatory and environmental safety standards.
Determination of Urea Content in Fertilizers by HPLC
Due to its high nitrogen content, Urea is the most important source of nitrogen for agricultural fertilizers and accounts for 50% of all nitrogen-based fertilizers. Accurate determination of urea is important for regulatory and product quality purposes. In this presentation, Jamie Foss, Sr. Application Scientist at PerkinElmer presents the determination of urea content in fertilizers by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in accordance with ISO 19746. An overview of the analytical scope and methodology is presented along with practical examples.
