Introduction
Dr. Rebecca Dodder of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Research and Development provides a system perspective on sustainable energy transitions in a presentation given at PerkinElmer’s Global Environmental Science Summit. Dr. Dodder reviews energy system modeling tools which can help identify trade-offs and interactions related to air quality co-benefits from transportation decarbonization as well as reduced water footprint from electric sector mitigation. She also examines life cycle approaches to look at the full cradle to grave for new electric vehicles and fuels. These tools will be helpful in not only examining environmental sustainability but also in highlighting additional factors which need to be considered when considering the impact of sustainability advances.
