Based on results from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 21.4 million people aged 16 or older operated a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and 12.8 million drove under the influence of illicit drugs. Due to the prevalence of driving while impaired, the forensic toxicology scientific community developed ASB Standard 120 “Standard for the Analytical Scope and Sensitivity of Forensic Toxicology Testing in Impaired Driving Investigations”. The scope of the standard provides the minimum requirement for target analytes and analytical sensitivity for the analysis biological fluids such as urine in suspected drugged driving cases.
