Introduction

This presentation is the first in a series that will introudce you to the highly useful analytical technique - High Performance Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). LC-MS is a separation technique that allows you to separate, accurately identify, and quantitate the componets in a sample. The objective of this session is to provide you with an entry level understanding of this technique. Topics to be discussed include chromatographic theory, the different types of sample ionization, a generic look at LC-MS instrumentation, and why/where LC-MS is used. In later sessions in this series some of the items discussed under these topics (i.e, maintenance and troubleshooting) will be discussed in greater detail.
