The most common accessory used in FT-IR today is an ATR. This technique has its benefits and simplifies presenting a sample to the instrument. But improper use of an ATR, by poor choice of the ATR setup, or improper data analysis can lead to either poor spectra or incorrect conclusions. This lecture will discuss the proper setup and use and discuss the fundamentals to provide a user with the ability to understand if the data actually represents the sample.
