Introduction

The criticality of rare earth elements (REEs) has recently driven us to look closer at possible secondary sources of REEs. In this on-demand webinar, Siiri Perämäki, Ph.D, from the University of Jyväskylä takes a close look at how to accurately determine the concentration of rare earth elements in coal and bio-based fly ashes and discusses some common pitfalls in sample pre-treatment and analysis using ICP-MS and ICP-OES techniques.

Objectives include:

  • How to efficiently dissolve fly ash samples for REE analysis
  • Examples of common interferences faced in REE analysis using ICP-OES
  • Some practical solutions to correct for matrix and spectral interferences
  • How ICP-MS can solve these problems in REE analysis
